It's the Ultimate Irony - Saddam's Coins Now Supporting U.S. Troops and Their Families!

Peoria, AZ, October 20, 2008 - Becca Gladden, a Peoria resident, is proud to announce the Grand Opening of Courage Coins - Arizona's First and Only Authorized Distributor of Products for Good.

Courage Coins offers beautiful patriotic shadow boxes containing uncirculated Iraqi coins minted by Saddam Hussein.  At least 20 percent of the proceeds from each sale is donated to charities that directly benefit U.S. troops and their families, with a goal to raise at least 20 million dollars.

In 2003, U.S. and British Coalition soldiers in Iraq were called upon to secure the banks and museums in Basra, Iraq from looters.  In the banks, troops found over 70,000 pounds of brilliant uncirculated Iraqi coins that had been decommissioned by Saddam Hussein at the end of the first Gulf War. 

Rumor has it that Saddam decommissioned the coins because they did not feature his face on them.  For ten years, the coins lay in bags on the floor of the Basra banks. 

After being secured by Coalition forces, these coins were sold at auction in London.  The proceeds of the original sale benefited a Basra orphanage and a British military cemetery which had been decimated under Saddam's reign. 

The coins did a lot of good for the children of that orphanage in Basra and the families of the fallen British soldiers.  Now they are doing even more good for U.S. troops and their families. 

After changing hands a few times, Products for Good acquired the entire collection - all 70,000 pounds of Iraqi coins - determined to find a way to use them to benefit wounded veterans of the war on terror and their families.

PFG created two beautiful patriotic shadowboxes containing the coins, with both a two-coin and four-coin option, along with coordinating inspirational photos and sayings.  The coins are uncirculated and have only been handled by gloved hands.

In an effort to have the coins continue to do good as much as possible, PFG uses Cleveland Vocational Industries to assemble the products.  CVI is a facility that provides work opportunities for individuals with barriers to entry into the traditional workforce.
